Assoc. prof. Visvaldas Varžinskas

Dr. Visvaldas Varžinskas – Associate Professor at KTU Institute of Environmental Engineering and Head of KTU Packaging Innovation and Research Centre. The main areas of research and ongoing projects are environmental management systems and standards, application of cleaner production and circular economy methods in product development systems, life cycle assessment, ecological (“circular”) product design, and implementation of technological eco-innovations in industry (with focus to packaging industry). He has led a number of international projects (Leonardo da Vinci, Interreg, IEE, HORIZON 2020, etc.) related to the development of integrated product policies, the development of tools for cleaner products and packaging, and the design and implementation of energy efficiency systems.

He has carried out more than 80 projects for designing environmentally cleaner products in industrial companies in Lithuania and abroad (Ukraine, Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands), and has consulted companies in the process of preparing social corporate responsibility reports. He and his colleagues and a team of experts prepared the “Roadmap for the Transition of Lithuanian Industry to the Circular Economy” for the Ministry of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania.

Co-author of over 30 scientific publications, 3 scientific monographs, and 2 educational books on sustainable industrial development and eco-friendly product design, co-author of 2 international patent applications, US and European patents, and 1 national patent.
